The most esteemed place in Jordan Gore the Sky. It is a monument to the prophet Moisey, the alleged place of his death and burial. Geographical arrangement

The state in the Middle East. In the north borders on Syria, in the northeast with Iraq, in the West and the northwest with Israel, in the South and the southeast with Saudi Arabia. The small site of the southern border of the country is washed by waters of the Aqaba gulf of the Red Sea. The most part of the country is occupied by the stony and sandy deserts framed with low mountains and plateaus. In the central and southern regions deserts and mountain semi-deserts in which small oases occasionally meet prevail. The highest point of the country - Mr. Dzhebel-Ram (1764 m) is in the south of the country, the lowest - on the coast of the Dead Sea (about 410 m below sea-level)

State system

Constitutional monarchy. The head of state is the King. Now its Majesty Abdullah II who in 1999 succeeded to the throne from the father – the king Hussein directing the state within 46 years.

Abdullah II is in hands of his Majesty legislative and executive power. The king is the Supreme Commander of the Jordanian armed forces. Under the constitution the legislature belongs to two-chamber parliament (National assembly) and the king who appoints members of the upper house called by the Senate. Executive power belongs to the king and the government which head is appointed the king and presents it for approval candidacies of members of the office. The king has powers of dissolution of the government, awards with awards and medals, pardons and confirms the death sentence pronounced by court. The king Abdullah II contracted marriage with the Queen Rania on June 10, 1993. Two sons, Prince Hussein and Prince Hashim and two daughters, the Princess Iman and the Princess Salma grow in royal family. The King has four brothers and six sisters. Abdullah II the professional diver, the pilot and the parachutist, among his hobbies there is a diving, an auto racing and a collecting of ancient weapon.

Climate and weather

In Jordan sharp and continental, very arid climate thanks to which the state remains attractive to tourists almost all the year round.

Average temperatures of January from +8 °C to +14 °C, July from +24 °C to +32 °C (at average daytime temperatures about +40 °C).

Air temperature on the Dead Sea: January – March of +23 °C - +25 °C, April-June – +23 °C - +28 °C, July-September of +29 °C-+35 °C, October – December of +24 °C +27 °C.

On the Red Sea January – March – +20 °C-+25 °C, April-June – +23 °C +28 °C, July-September of +28 °C +35 °C, October – December of +25 °C - +27 °C.

Water temperature in the Red and Dead seas all the year round does not fall below 21 °C. At the same time irrespective of season, the difference of daytime and night time temperatures can dostigat10 °C °C-15 therefore at the nights happens enough cool. Even in the summer the capital of Jordan-Amman can surprise you in quite cool evenings. Osadkov drops out from 100 to 700 mm. in a year. The best time for visit of Jordan - spring and fall. In the spring Jordan changes thanks to the flowers blossoming during this time. In the natural charm only the local fall succeeding a summer heat can be compared to the Jordanian spring.

July and one or two August of the driest and hot month, however thanks to dryness of air a local heat is transferred rather easily.



Islam. About 95% of the population of Jordan Sunni Muslims. About 5% of the population - Christians. Two thirds from Christians - Catholics and Orthodox Christians. Other Christians are uniats (Catholics of the Byzantine Rite), parishioners of Syriac Orthodox Church. Most of Christians - not Arabs - Armenians, belong to the Armenian-Gregorian orthodox Church and the Armenian Catholic Church. In Jordan there are several Protestant communities.


Official language of the Hashimitsky Kingdom Jordan - Arab. At the same time English is very widespread. Most of Jordanians, and first of all capital inhabitants, can freely communicate in English. Many Jordanians studied in the CIS countries therefore it is not seldom possible to meet the locals who are fluent in Russian. The most popular hotels of Jordan have Russian-speaking employees in the state.

Some public holidays in Jordan have no accurately fixed date. The list of such holidays includes Easter (which is annually celebrated in the spring) and the following Muslim holidays which, as well as Easter, are based on a lunar calendar:

Hades Al-Fitr, four or the five-day festival organized upon termination of Ramadan.

Ramadan - sacred month of a post which date changes according to a lunar calendar from year to year. In the period of Ramadan trade in alcohol over all country is forbidden, only foreigners - not to Muslims in 5 stars hotels are allowed to order hard liquors. During the whole day up to nightfall in public places over all country it is forbidden to smoke, eat food and to drink water. Most shops, banks, institutions and offices open at 09:00 at this time and are closed at 14:00.

The official days off – Friday and Saturday.
